CCI NOTES: United Power for Action and Justice is an organizing branch of the Democratic party designed to exploit Catholic Church donations to advance welfare programs and elect Democrats. In spite of the obvious political focus of this organization, the Catholic Campaign for Human Development continues to endorse and sponsor them nationwide, and they have been allowed to siphon millions of dollars out of Chicago Catholic Church over the past few years. It won't stop until you stop them in your own parishes...

The text in bold below appeared in the bulletin of Holy Spirit Church:

United Power for Action and Justice: Action Agenda 2004

Elected leaders are commissioned by voters to act on our behalf, yet all too often are motivated by their own priorities, influenced by lobbyists or other special interests. As a community of concerned citizens and neighbors, we demand more accountability and responsiveness to human concerns.

United Power for Action and Justice is an independent, self-funding, organization of churches, synagogues, mosques, civic, neighborhood, labor, health and ethnic institutions based in Cook County, IL. We have joined together across religious, geographic, racial and economic lines to fight for the common good on issues of shared concern. This ACTION AGENDA is the result of many months of hard work. We invite.you to work us to make this agenda a reality as we present it to the appropriate public and corporate officials. It is still open to modification as we gather input from participants. Our two sister organizations in DuPage and Lake Counties are doing similar work. These are separate organizations, with separate dues structures and separate issues.

WILL YOU STAND WITH US FOR JUSTICE?

.Increase access to health care

Expansion of the "Pilot Project for the Uninsured:" accessible, primary health care, prescription drug discounts and lowcost catastrophic and emergency room benefits for temporarily uninsured persons.

Expansion of "Family Care," a federally subsidized insurance program for working parents whose children qualify for the "Kid Care" health insurance program.

Add $5 million in new state funding to create new community health centers and expand existing ones.

.Housing People can Afford

Create a rental housing support program to make rents more affordable.

Increase funding for supportive services ensuring stability for formerly homeless people.

Creation of a state program to aid those whose homes are in foreclosure so they can keep their homes (to respond to the 74% increase in foreclosures in Chicago since 1993 and the significant increases in foreclosures outside Chicago).

Expansion of the Ezra Plan, which builds affordable, owner-occupied, single-family homes for working families.

.Equal opportunity for our newest Americans

Increase access to citizenship and federal financial aid for undocumented High School graduates.

Expand the eligibility guidelines for KidCare and FamilyCare to include immigrants and expand the right to purchase private health insurance to all.

Permitting the use of an individual tax identification number in lieu of a social security number to qualify for an Illinois driver's license.
