On Sunday, April 25, several pro-abortion groups will have their much ballyhooed "March for Women's Lives." Thousands of abortion enthusiasts will gather in the nation's capital to make our country aware of their determination to keep abortion-murder legal. And - surprise, surprise - they don't particularly care for pro-lifers. According to the Culture of Life Foundation (www.culture-of-life.org), a militantly pro-abortion group known as the Radical Cheerleaders calls upon "'feminists, radical cheerleaders, anti-authoritarians, [and] anarchists' to 'rise up against a tyrannical government which threatens to penetrate women's bodies with its laws.' The group also calls upon the radical community to move beyond the current pro-choice movement, which it claims has not done enough for women. Spokesmen say the group plans on 'showing the government, as well as the pro-choice movement, that the radical community is as committed to the issue of women's choice as it is to anything else.' In January, the group held a 'guerrilla workshop' to practice organized resistance for the march as well as other events...." How sad. Perhaps one day these anti-lifers will see the light and come to know the truth. Meanwhile, in another sad sign of the times, there is this story on Lifesite.net: Planned Parenthood's Triumph: UN Reports 61% of Planet's Reproductive Age Women Using Contraception With 133 Million Permanently Sterilized. The story can be found by going to: http://www.lifesite.net/ldn/2004/apr/04042204.html. Also, it's amazing that abortion supporters (and even some "pro-lifers") still claim the widespread availability and use of contraception (an intrinsic evil) will reduce the number of unintended pregnancies and thus the number of abortions. If that were true, we should have a miniscule number of abortions being committed. Not so, of course. There are still well over a million abortions a year in the U.S. alone. And that doesn't even include the massive number of chemical abortions due to abortifacient "birth control." Abortion is, and always will be, a back-up to contraceptive failure. A fallen hero Pat Tillman, 27, who left a very lucrative job as a professional football player to become an Army Ranger, has been killed in action in Afghanistan. I really have to admire Tillman. I wouldn't have the guts to serve my country in such a fashion, even if someone were to offer me $3,000,000 to do so. But Tillman obviously did have the guts. He should be applauded for it. As should all other military men and women who bravely serve our country. To quote the Catechism of the Catholic Church: "Those who are sworn to serve their country in the armed forces are servants of the security and freedom of nations. If they carry out their duty honorably, they truly contribute to the common good of the nation and the maintenance of peace" (no. 2310). Until next time...
