If the United States court system gives into the same-gender "marriage" craze so as to make it a staple of our American culture, our American culture will be on its way to "chaos. 4/27/2004 8:04:00 PM By Pastor J. Grant Swank, Jr.
If the United States court system gives into the same-gender "marriage" craze so as to make it a staple of our American culture, our American culture will be on its way to "chaos."Robert Bork, one time nominee to the US Supreme Court, delivered his address with Christian conviction. He spoke to lawyers and others of the legal profession at the St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Stamford, Connecticut. His remarks followed a Red Mass officiated by Boston Archbishop Sean Patrick O'Malley and Bishop William Lori of the Bridgeport Diocese. Bork referred to the recent upsurge of same-gender "marriage" interest as "judicial sin" when the issue comes to the courts. Those gathering on Sunday to hear Bork were instructed not to have anything to do with such immorality for it will spell the close of our ethical foundation. According to the Associated Press, Bork said that "legal justification for gay marriage is a 'judicial sin' that exists beyond the U.S. Constitution." Further, he elaborated: "'Many of our courts are guilty of that judicial sin, that is willingness, even eagerness, to reach results announcing principles that have no plausible relation to any constitution.'" Nearly 300 Catholic clergy, judges and lawyers were present at the breakfast when Bork "criticized the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court's ruling in November legalizing gay marriage," according to The Advocate of Stamford in its Monday issue. "'If each person defines meaning for themselves, that means there are no allowable moral truths,' said Bork, a former U.S. Appeals Court judge. 'If decisions like those I've been discussing are the waves of the future, our culture will slide into chaos and self-government will be a shrunken remnant of what we once aspired to.' Bork's moral position is supported by Holy Scripture, such passages including: "Jesus said to them. . .'From the beginning of creation, God made them male and female. For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother, and the two shall become one flesh; consequently they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate'." (Mark 10:5-9) In addition, Bork's address endorses the position of US President George W. Bush. The Associated Press reports: "President Bush backed a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage, saying he wants to stop activist judges from changing the definition of the 'most enduring human institution.' "Marriage cannot be severed from its cultural and moral roots, Bush said, urging Congress to approve such an amendment. "'After more than two centuries of American jurisprudence and millennia of human experience, a few judges and local authorities are presuming to change the most fundamental institution of civilization,' the president said. 'Their action has created confusion on an issue that requires clarity.' "Presidential spokesman Scott McClellan said in advance of Bush's announcement that the president wanted to end 'growing confusion' that has arisen from court decisions in Massachusetts, and San Francisco's permitting more than 3,000 same sex unions. "'The president believes it is important to have clarity,' he said. 'There is widespread support in this country for protecting and defending the sanctity of marriage.'" Bork's moral base is biblical ethics, such references including: Leviticus 18:22: "You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination." Leviticus 20:13: "If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death. Their bloodguiltiness is upon them." Romans 1:18-32: "For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. . .For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God, or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools. . . "Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, that their bodies might be dishonored among them. For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. . . "For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire towards one another, men with men committed indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. "God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, malice; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice. . .without understanding. . . and, although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them." I Corinthians 6:9: "Do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived, neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God." I noted a political cartoon yesterday that spoke truth. It depicted two homosexuals atop a wedding cake. They were shouting from the cake's pinnacle: "Don't force your morality down our throats!" The drawing to the right of that depicted Uncle Sam. In his mouth was that same huge wedding cake with the two homosexuals atop it. The whole cake and duo were being stuffed down Uncle Sam's throat. Thank you, ultra-creative cartoonist, for speaking the absolute current facts of it all. Why should the traditional, biblical marriage mode be sidelined for sodomy legislated? In other words, sodomizers, quit stuffing your immorality down the country's throat. ### Pastor Swank is an evangelical minister of an independent house church in Windham, Maine.
