Bishop: Hire is a good fit

Douglas Delaney has taken on a big job as the executive assistant to Bishop J. Peter Sartain, but at least he gets to go home at night. Delaney, a Naperville resident, held the post of executive director of the Catholic Conference of Illinois for seven years and found himself away from his wife, Linda, and four children for much of that time. “I was traveling so much in that other job,” Delaney said. “Whenever the legislature was in session, I was down in Springfield.” Now Delaney will coordinate the day-to-day activities of the bishop’s office and will develop and implement a communications plan for the Diocese of Joliet. He also will serve as the diocesan spokesman to the public and the media.
