Life crusaders bombard new clinic with prayers

Since the morning hours of Aug. 9, pro-lifers from many denominations have been praying around the clock near the property of a nearly completed Planned Parenthood building on New York Street in Aurora. The vigil is slated to conclude Sept. 18 when the clinic’s doors are scheduled to open, said Jane Fonner, a member of nearby Our Lady of Mercy Parish in Aurora, who is continuing to help coordinate the 40-day vigil. The believers praying outside the building where abortions are expected to be performed realize-despite their efforts-that the clinic will likely open next month, Fonner told the Catholic Explorer. “So we’re also praying for the conversion” of the staff and the men and women who will be seeking abortions at the facility, she said. Since the vigil was launched, dozens of men and women have been taking turns praying at the site, said Fonner. “We’ve had a wonderful response.”
