Holy Spirit food pantry faces big jump in demand: Requests food donations to meet demand and state requirements

Like every other organization that distributes food to the needy, the tiny pantry at Church of the Holy Spirit is having trouble filling requests. “The demand has increased incredibly. Everyone is struggling,” said Anne Frost, who coordinates the effort at the Lake Forest church. “People are desperate.” Frost’s records show that the number of bags of food distributed at CHS have tripled in three years, from 173 bags in 2006 to 537 in 2008. “In 2008 we served 1,097 people, which is pretty high for a little tiny food pantry,” she said. “We’re having trouble keeping up with it.”
