Post Card Campaign to Protect the Unborn and Religious Liberty

Following is the letter from Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I. to the priests of the Archdiocese on the infringements on Religious Liberty and the upcoming postcard campaign.

Dear Father,

As you know, since the nationwide debate sparked by the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision, the Catholic Church has led the effort to extend legal protections to the unborn. In more recent years, the Church has fought against the infringements of religious liberty found in policies such as the Department of Health and Human Services’ mandate requiring religious organizations to provide insurance coverage of abortion-inducing drugs, contraceptives and sterilizations. The most recent ―accommodations‖ still leave the government in charge of deciding what is religious and what is not.

These efforts are difficult, but they are also vitally important. To help keep a popular voice in play, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) is calling for a nationwide postcard campaign to members of our new Congress, urging the implementation of policies that respect both life and religious freedom.
