The concept at Cristo Rey Jesuit High School in Pilsen is simple: Allow poor kids with the right attitude to work their way toward a Catholic college prep education. It’s worked so well at the Chicago high school that admiring benefactors have launched three similar schools around the country and on Tuesday announced an $18.9 million joint grant that will start other schools and support existing ones.
