Illinois Appellate Court Judge Anne Burke is poised to take the helm of a national panel investigating the sex abuse scandal in the Roman Catholic Church, after a defiant former Oklahoma Gov. Frank Keating resigned Monday as its chairman. For the last year, Burke has served as vice chairwoman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ National Review Board, comprising a dozen prominent lay Catholics, including former White House Chief of Staff Leon Panetta and famed Washington, D.C., attorney Robert Bennett.
