CCI was contacted yesterday by Manya A. Brachear of the Chicago Tribune, and Karl Maurer is quoted in this story. What is interesting is that Mr. Maurer stressed repeatedly that the Vatican WAS NOT proposing that altar girls be banned. They simply were stressing rules already on the books, that preference be given to altar boys, as it was hoped they would thus consider the priesthood. You can trust the Chicago Tribune to never let the facts get in the way of a good headline. Also note that, so-called ‘relgion reporter’ Geneive Abdo knows just where to go to get the hard-left AMCHURCH side of the story — Rev. Thomas Reese, editor of ‘America’, the notorious dissenter magazine published by the Jesuits. We suggested several local Catholic priests that the Tribune should speak with, but of course, they were conservatives, and not needed for a left slanted story.
