Vatican City: Souvenir shops in the Vatican are gearing up for the beatification on Sunday of Mother Teresa with all manner of portraits and knick-knacks showing the nun in her traditional blue-fringed sari on sale. But shopkeepers are not banking on a bonaza, even though some 250,000 people are expected to descend on the Vatican City for the much awaited ceremony. “Who supports Mother Teresa? Poor people. And by definition, they don’t have much to spend,” said one shopkeeper, adding the present economic climate was making things worse.
