Inside the Internet: Catholics offer stewardship options on the Internet

Father Burke Masters, the director of the Joliet diocesan Vocation Office, is hooking vocations to priesthood and religious life with the help of the Net. “We get hits from all over the world,” he said, discussing the diocesan agency’s Web site, www.vocations.com. When someone runs an Internet search on the word “vocations,” he or she immediately comes across the site, he explained. Father Masters helps connect inquirers to his site from outside the Diocese of Joliet with vocation directors in their own dioceses. As for the rest of those who contact him via the site, the 40-year-old priest sets up meetings with them to converse about diocesan priesthood possibilities or points them in the direction of religious communities within the seven-county diocese.
