A popular YouTube channel that typically gives fashion and beauty tips recently encouraged young women with an important but often unheard message about abstinence until marriage.

Courtney McCalmont, the 21-year-old Pennsylvania woman who runs the channel, shared why she decided to wait to have sex until marriage and why she encourages others to do the same, the Daily Mail reports. She blogs under the name Courtney Raine.

“You guys know, that I am very religious, if you watched my testimony video, this is something that is a big part of my life and I feel like God put it on my heart to talk about,” McCalmont said in the May video.

McCalmont told her viewers that she is a devout Christian. She emphasized that she is not trying to judge people who have had sex before marriage, but she truly believes waiting is the best.

Here’s more from the report:

However, she added that she was making the video for ‘the girl out there’ who ‘wants to wait until marriage but in this day and age with pop culture and with television and music out there, and everything she’s seeing on social media, she just doesn’t think that it’s possible’.

‘I also want to talk to the girl out there that’s in high school and she’s getting bullied and for some reason she thinks, ‘you know what, if I decided to do this, this is going to make me popular’,’ she added.

‘I decided at a very young age that I wanted to stay pure, it’s just something that I vowed to myself. I grew up in a very Catholic family, so if you know anything about the Catholic culture it’s pretty common for people to wait until marriage just because in the bible it talks about keeping yourself pure for your husband or wife.’

The young woman also shared her personal experiences with boyfriends. She said she had two boyfriends who did not understand her conviction; one wanted to have sex with her and the other lied to her about being a virgin. Both relationships ended.

McCalmont encouraged single women to wait for a man who respects their values and loves them for who they are.

“You know that the person you’re with is in it for you,” McCalmont said. “They love you and everything about you and it’s not just the physical part of it. Also not only that, you’ll never have to worry about getting pregnant and you’ll never have to worry about getting any diseases.

“If you find someone that is on the same track as you, and has the same intentions it will make everything so much easier,” she said.
