Utah law declares pornography a “public health crisis”

The Utah House of Representatives just voted unanimously to declare pornography a “public health crisis.”  This follows similar action by the Utah Senate and the governor has promised to sign the Resolution involved.  I am attaching the Resolution for you.

The great Jim Dobson once produced a movie called, “Pornography, A Winnable War” and proceeded to lead that war during his years as president of Focus on the Family.  He was winning but with the advent of the Internet, the war suffered setback after setback until every family in America was harmed or threatened by pornography – children and adults got addicted, child sex abuse proliferated, marriages broke up, etc., etc.  In other words, until a public health crisis developed.

We drafted the Utah Resolution with the intent that it be a catalyst for action.  If a state says pornography is a public health crisis then it follows that that state must enforce its obscenity laws (45 states prohibit retail distribution of obscene material) and that state must address the great problem of pornography in public libraries, and the breakdown of marriages and destruction of childhood due to porn consumption and other crisis caused by porn.

The news out of Utah is a promising harbinger of good things to come.  Recently, I told you about the number of top hotel chains that agreed to stop offering in-room porn.  Consider this: there will be 2,000,000 fewer hotel rooms offering porn by year’s end.  I foresee the day when using or promoting pornography is intolerable in our society just as smoking on an airplane or in restaurants is today.

This is a “Winnable War.”  Thank you Dr. Dobson for starting it.
