BELLEVILLE — After Belleville Bishop Wilton Gregory told him he would be investigated about child sex abuse allegations raised by a Texas newspaper reporter, Rev. Daniel Friedman stepped down from his parish duties Friday. When told of Friedman’s removal, Gene Canavan, who was a summer camp director with Friedman, said: “I’ve known Dan for a long time, and I’m not making an accusation, but I thought then and now that Father Dan shouldn’t be a pastor around kids. He has a problem.”
