Des Plaines, IL – A rally on the campus of Maryville City of Youth drew over two thousand people who came to show support for Executive Director Rev. John Smyth and to protest the draconian decision by Governor Rod Blagojevich to remove all state wards from the home over alleged safety concerns. The unprecedented and unexpected defunding of Maryville by the governor effectively makes homeless over 200 children – many with special needs – and could leave as many as 400 social workers, teachers and surrogate parents unemployed.
